{"id":207,"date":"2009-07-02T00:03:09","date_gmt":"2009-07-02T00:03:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/wordpress\/?page_id=207"},"modified":"2011-02-01T06:04:14","modified_gmt":"2011-02-01T06:04:14","slug":"dates-and-time-formats","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/mixedracestudies.org\/wp\/?page_id=207","title":{"rendered":"Date and Time Formats"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The date and time formats on this website correspond with the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/ISO_8601\" target=\"_blank\">ISO 8601<\/a> format.\u00a0 I have done this to facilitate the use of the website for a global audience.<\/p>\n<p>The dates are represented as <em>yyyy-mm-dd<\/em> where <em>yyyy<\/em> is the year, <em>mm<\/em> is the month and <em>dd<\/em> is the day.\u00a0 The time is in a 24-hour format followed by a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Time_zone\" target=\"_blank\">timezone<\/a> specification (always <em>Z,<\/em> for <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Utc\" target=\"_blank\">UTC<\/a>\u00a0(Coordinated Universal Time) or the now depreciated GMT <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Greenwich_Mean_Time\" target=\"_blank\">(Greenwich Mean Time<\/a>)).\u00a0 Example: <em>1971-07-03<\/em> is equivalent to July 3, 1971 (3 July 1971).\u00a0 <em>23:51Z<\/em> is equivalent to 18:51 (6:51 PM) Eastern <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Standard_time\" target=\"_blank\">Standard Time<\/a> (EST).<\/p>\n<p>For convenience sake, events for local audiences will usually be described with the local time and timezone.\u00a0 For live events\u00a0in a given timezone\u00a0that are available via a webcast or broadcast, the displayed UTC date may fall on the <em>following day!<\/em>\u00a0 Thus, an event scheduled for webcast or broadcast on <em>Tuesday<\/em> at 20<em>:00 (8:00 PM)\u00a0EST<\/em>, will be displayed as <em>Wednesday<\/em> at <em>01:00Z<\/em>\u00a0.<\/p>\n<p>In the United States, UTC is 5 hours <em>ahead<\/em> of Eastern Standard Time (EST), 8 hours ahead of Pacific Standard Time (PST), 4 hours ahead of Eastern <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Daylight_savings_time\" target=\"_blank\">Daylight Savings Time<\/a> (EDT), and 7 hours ahead of Pacific Daylight Time (PDT).\u00a0 Time in the United Kingdom is the same as\u00a0UTC except during <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/British_Summer_Time\" target=\"_blank\">British Summer Time<\/a> (BST) when it is 1 hour <em>ahead<\/em> of UTC.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The date and time formats on this website correspond with the ISO 8601 format.\u00a0 I have done this to facilitate the use of the website for a global audience.
