Ho (right), a Ph.D. student in psychology at Harvard, and James Sidanius, a professor of psychology and of African and African-American studies at Harvard<\/a>, researched the \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=3208\" target=\"_blank\">one-drop rule<\/a>.\u201d They say their work reflects the cultural entrenchment of America\u2019s traditional racial hierarchy, which assigns the highest status to whites, followed by Asians, with Latinos and blacks at the bottom.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The centuries-old \u201cone-drop rule\u201d assigning minority status to mixed-race individuals appears to live on in our modern-day perception and categorization of people like <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Barack_Obama\" target=\"_blank\">Barack Obama<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tiger_Woods\" target=\"_blank\">Tiger Woods<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Halle_Berry\" target=\"_blank\">Halle Berry<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So say Harvard University psychologists, <strong>who\u2019ve found that we still tend to see biracials not as equal members of both parent groups, but as belonging more to their minority parent group.<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=10789\" target=\"_blank\">The research<\/a> appears in the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.apa.org\/pubs\/journals\/psp\/\" target=\"_blank\">Journal of Personality and Social Psychology<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany commentators have argued that the election of Barack Obama, and the increasing number of mixed-race people more broadly, will lead to a fundamental change in American race relations,\u201d says lead author Arnold K.
