Homan<\/strong><br \/>\nBloomberg News<\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON\u2014The ethnic makeup of the world\u2019s largest economy will be increasingly diverse, <strong>with more mixed-race Americans, according to the head of the U.S. Census Bureau.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the decade of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tiger_Woods\" target=\"_blank\">Tiger Woods<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Barack_Obama\" target=\"_blank\">Barack Obama<\/a>, where we talked about race combinations,\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Robert_Groves\" target=\"_blank\">Robert Groves<\/a>, director of the federal agency, said about forthcoming 2010 Census data in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/2010-12-24\/groves-on-u-s-population-data-political-capital-with-al-hunt.html\" target=\"_blank\">an interview on <em>Bloomberg Television\u2019s<\/em> \u201cPolitical Capital with Al Hunt\u201d<\/a>.<strong> \u201cI can\u2019t wait to see the pattern of responses on multiple races. That\u2019ll be a neat indicator to watch.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The 2010 Census was the second consecutive decennial count to allow residents to identify as more than one race, and Groves said it\u2019s likely that more respondents checked off multiple races.<\/p>\n<p>The nation\u2019s population grew 9.7 per cent to 308,745,538 in 2010, from the previous decade, with the fastest gains coming in the South and West, the agency said this week.
