{"id":13955,"date":"2011-05-26T04:01:58","date_gmt":"2011-05-26T04:01:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/wordpress\/?p=13955"},"modified":"2011-05-26T04:35:10","modified_gmt":"2011-05-26T04:35:10","slug":"%e2%80%98of-many-colors-portraits-of-multiracial-families%e2%80%99-traveling-exhibit-bridges-diverse-backgrounds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mixedracestudies.org\/wp\/?p=13955","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Of Many Colors: Portraits of Multiracial Families\u2019 traveling exhibit bridges diverse backgrounds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailybruin.com\/index.php\/article\/2011\/05\/of_many_colors_portraits_of_multiracial_families_traveling_exhibit_bridges_diverse_backgrounds\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018Of Many Colors: Portraits of Multiracial Families\u2019 traveling exhibit bridges diverse backgrounds<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailybruin.com\" target=\"_blank\">Daily Bruin<\/a><br \/>\nUniversity of California, Los Angeles<br \/>\n2011-05-22<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lenika Cruz<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Starting this evening, UCLA will act as a home for 20 families, each with a story to tell about being multiracial Americans.<\/p>\n<p>While these families will not be physically present, their photographs and interviews will be, as part of \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.familydiv.org\/ofmanycolors.php\" target=\"_blank\">Of Many Colors: Portraits of Multiracial Families<\/a>,\u201d a traveling exhibit that began circulating the country in the early \u201990s.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibit came to UCLA from the organization <a href=\"http:\/\/www.familydiv.org\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\">Family Diversity Projects<\/a> as part of a collaboration between <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mascsite.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Multiracial Americans of Southern California<\/a> and UCLA\u2019s Mixed Student Union. An opening reception with a speech from Cultural Affairs Commissioner Kinnery Shah will take place in the Ackerman second floor lounge, after which the exhibit will move to the Kerckhoff Art Gallery until Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The project is the work of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.familydiv.org\/aboutus.php\" target=\"_blank\">Peggy Gillespie and Gigi Kaeser<\/a>, co-founders of Family Diversity Projects. They interviewed and photographed more than 40 families living in and around <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Amherst,_Massachusetts\" target=\"_blank\">Amherst, Mass.<\/a>, who identified as multiracial.
