Both groups have a lack of power and are treated as inferior in a colonial, patriarchal society. This article examines the parallels between Madame \u00c9l\u00e9onore de la Rebeli\u00e8re, the Creole wife of a Belgian plantation owner, and Donatien, a former slave.
