Convention<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ghi-dc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">German Historical Institute<\/a><br \/>\n1607 New Hampshire Avenue, NW<br \/>\nWashington, D.C.<br \/>\n2011-08-19 through 2011-08-21<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/blackgermans.us\" target=\"_blank\">Black German Cultural Society, Inc.<\/a> is excited to announce its First Annual Convention to be held from August 19 to 21, 2011, at the German Historical Institute (GHI) in Washington, DC. With the theme of \u201cStrengthening Transatlantic Connections,\u201d the convention will host guests and presenters from our international community in Germany and the United States.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nOur keynote speaker will be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.deutschland-schwarzweiss.de\/en\/the_author.html\" target=\"_blank\">Noah Sow<\/a>, the acclaimed journalist, musician, producer and author of \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.deutschland-schwarzweiss.de\/en\/book_information.html\" target=\"_blank\">Deutschland Schwarz Wei\u00df<\/a>\u201d (C. Bertelsmann, 2008), who will speak about \u201cGeteilte Geschichte: The Black Experience in Germany and the US.\u201d<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nIn cooperation with the <a href=\"http:\/\/wdchumanities.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Humanities Council of Washington, DC<\/a>, the convention will also feature an award ceremony for <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hans_Massaquoi\" target=\"_blank\">Hans J. Massaquoi<\/a>, who will be given the \u201cChampion of the Humanities Award\u201d in honor of his lifetime achievements as an author, journalist, and cultural ambassador. Accepting the award at the convention on behalf of Mr. Massaquoi will be his son, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lewismunday.com\/Bio\/HansMassaquoi.asp\" target=\"_blank\">Hans J. Massaquoi, Jr.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the convention will feature a photo exhibit on &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aacvr-germany.org\/AACVR.ORG\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Civil Rights Struggle, African American GIs, and Germany<\/a>,&#8221; and &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/homestorydeutschland.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Homestory Deutschland: Gelebt &#8211; Erlebte Schwarze Deutsche Geschichte(n)<\/a>.&#8221;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>For more information, click <a href=\"http:\/\/blackgermans.us\/convention2011\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>First Annual Black German Cultural Society Inc.
