Manley and the <a href=\"http:\/\/coe.ksu.edu\/nlbemuseum\/history\/teams\/newarkeagles.html\" target=\"_blank\">Eagles<\/a> gave African Americans a haven, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ruppert_Stadium_(Newark)\" target=\"_blank\">Ruppert Stadium<\/a>. She was a force of nature\u2014and, as Bob Luke shows, one to be reckoned with. From 1936 to 1948, she ran the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Negro_league_baseball\" target=\"_blank\">Negro league<\/a> Newark Eagles, which her husband, <a href=\"http:\/\/coe.ksu.edu\/nlbemuseum\/history\/players\/manleya.html\" target=\"_blank\">Abe<\/a>, owned for roughly a decade.
