I examine the concept of <em>mestizaje\/mulatez<\/em>, which has its theological roots in the work of <a href=\"http:\/\/theology.nd.edu\/people\/all\/elizondo-virgilio\/\" target=\"_blank\">Virgilio Elizondo<\/a>, and perform a mutually critical correlation between it and <a href=\"http:\/\/fds.duke.edu\/db\/Provost\/clacs\/silva\" target=\"_blank\">Eduardo Bonilla-Silva\u2019s<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unt.edu\/soci\/faculty-staff\/\" target=\"_blank\">George Yancey\u2019s<\/a> sociologies of the changing racial structure. Elizondo is pointing towards God\u2019s creation of an <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Eschatology\" target=\"_blank\">eschatological<\/a> people of cultural and biological hybridity who embody a new creation that transcends racial categorization and is made incarnate in the person of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Galilean\" target=\"_blank\">Galilean<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jesus_Of_Galilee\" target=\"_blank\">Jesus<\/a>. At the same time, <em>mestizaje\/mulatez<\/em> contains ambiguity in that it possesses both liberating and oppressive possibilities for the future of humankind and its struggle against racialized suffering.
