Bigotry<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\" target=\"_blank\">The New York Times<\/a><br \/>\n2012-01-01<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Julie_Bosman\" target=\"_blank\">Julie Bosman<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Photography by: <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.greyvillet.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Grey Villet<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 1958, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mildred_and_Richard_Loving\" target=\"_blank\">Richard and Mildred Loving<\/a> were arrested in a nighttime raid in their bedroom by the sheriff of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Caroline_County,_Virginia\" target=\"_blank\">Caroline County, Va<\/a>. Their crime: being married to each other. The Lovings\u2014Mildred, who was of African-American and Native American descent, and Richard, a bricklayer with a blond buzz cut\u2014were ordered by a judge to leave Virginia for 25 years. In January, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.icp.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">International Center of Photography<\/a> is mounting a show [2012-01-20 through 2012-05-06] of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greyvillet.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Grey Villet\u2019s<\/a> photographs of the couple in 1965.
