{"id":20933,"date":"2012-03-12T02:00:29","date_gmt":"2012-03-12T02:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/wordpress\/?p=20933"},"modified":"2012-03-13T16:20:44","modified_gmt":"2012-03-13T16:20:44","slug":"black-german-cultural-society-of-new-jersey-2012-annual-convention-call-for-papers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mixedracestudies.org\/wp\/?p=20933","title":{"rendered":"Black German Cultural Society of New Jersey 2012 Annual Convention: Call for Papers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blackgermans.us\/new\/2012\/01\/31\/call-for-papers\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>Black German Cultural Society of New Jersey 2012 Annual Convention: Call for Papers<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blackgermans.us\" target=\"_blank\">Black German Cultural Society of New Jersey<\/a><br \/>\n2012-01-31<\/p>\n<p>Building on the success of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=17851\" target=\"_blank\">inaugural 2011 conference<\/a>, the second annual convention of the Black German Cultural Society of New Jersey (BGCSNJ) will be held at <a href=\"http:\/\/barnard.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Barnard College<\/a> in New York City on August 10-11, 2012.\u00a0 This year\u2019s convention will focus on the theme of \u201cWhat Is the Black German Experience?\u201d The conference will feature a keynote address by Yara Colette Lemke Muniz de Faria, screenings of the films \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=20969\" target=\"_blank\">Hope in My Heart: The May Ayim Story<\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=20973\" target=\"_blank\">Audre Lorde \u2013 The Berlin Years 1984-1992<\/a>,\u201d and readings by\u00a0Black German poet-performers <a href=\"http:\/\/www.olumidepopoola.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Olumide Popoola<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=XECQ2E3D1ts\" target=\"_blank\">Philipp Khabo K\u00f6psell<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The BGCSNJ Review Committee invites proposals for papers that engage the multiplicity and diversity of the experiences of Blacks of German heritage and on Blackness in Germany.\u00a0We welcome submissions for twenty-minute presentations on three academic panels and two sessions devoted to life writing, oral history and memoir.
