{"id":22170,"date":"2012-04-04T09:07:43","date_gmt":"2012-04-04T09:07:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/wordpress\/?p=22170"},"modified":"2012-04-06T20:14:36","modified_gmt":"2012-04-06T20:14:36","slug":"university-of-north-florida-presents-james-weldon-johnson-symposium","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mixedracestudies.org\/wp\/?p=22170","title":{"rendered":"University of North Florida Presents James Weldon Johnson Symposium"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unf.edu\/ia\/pr\/media_relations\/press\/2012\/University_of_North_Florida_Presents_James_Weldon_Johnson_Symposium.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">University of North Florida Presents James Weldon Johnson Symposium<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>University of North Florida<br \/>\nPress Release<br \/>\n2012-03-29<\/p>\n<p><strong>Joanna Norris<\/strong>, Associate Director of Public Relations<\/p>\n<p>he University of North Florida presents the James Weldon Johnson Symposium from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday, April 5, and from noon to 5 p.m. Friday, April 6, in the UNF Student Union Auditorium, Building 58W, Room 2704, in celebration of the centennial anniversary of the publication of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/James_Weldon_Johnson\" target=\"_blank\">James Weldon Johnson\u2019s<\/a> \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Autobiography_of_an_Ex-Colored_Man\" target=\"_blank\">Autobiography of an Ex-Colored Man<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The symposium will feature student and faculty performances, poetry readings as well as music and dance performances. The keynote speaker will be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unf.edu\/ccbl\/Community_Scholars_Profiles_-_Cohort_1\/JeffriAnne_Wilder.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Dr. JeffriAnne Wilder<\/a>, assistant professor in the UNF Department of Sociology and Anthropology. She will discuss \u201cBlack Americans and Colorism in the 21st Century,\u201d while UNF student Erin Mulkey will perform \u201cLift Ev\u2019ry Voice and Sing,\u201d a song written by Johnson and is considered to be the Negro national anthem.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, there will be faculty and student presentations addressing the life of Johnson as well as his <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jacksonville,_Florida\" target=\"_blank\">Jacksonville<\/a> origins and connections.
