I situate this panic within \u2018whiteness,\u2019 and argue that it encompasses not just the fear of a \u2018black\u2019 president, but also the fear of unsettling the purportedly settled categories of race itself. This panic may be muted by the discourse of colorblindness and post-racialism, but finds voice in these \u2018hybrid\u2019 significations of Obama.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Cynthia D.
