He served as editor of &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pittsburgh_Courier\">The Pittsburgh Courier<\/a>&#8221; which was the largest black newspaper in circulation until Vann\u2019s death in 1940. He was recently commemorated in his hometown of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ahoskie,_North_Carolina\" target=\"_blank\">Ahoskie, NC<\/a> with a <a href=\"http:\/\/chowandiscovery.org\/2012\/04\/25\/robert-lee-vann-marker-dedicated-in-ahoskie\/\" target=\"_blank\">long-earned historical marker<\/a>.
