Macdonald wanted an \u2018Aryan\u2019 Canada<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ottawacitizen.com\" target=\"_blank\">The Ottawa Citizen<\/a><br \/>\n2012-08<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.education.uottawa.ca\/en\/faculty\/professors?p=tstanley\" target=\"_blank\">Tim Stanley<\/a><\/strong>, Professor of History<br \/>\n<em> University of Ottawa<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In 1885, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_A._Macdonald\" target=\"_blank\">John A. Macdonald<\/a> told the House of Commons that, if the Chinese were not excluded from Canada, \u201cthe Aryan character of the future of British America should be destroyed \u2026\u201d This was the precise moment in the histories of Canada and the British Dominions when Macdonald personally introduced race as a defining legal principle of the state.<\/p>\n<p>He did this not just in any piece of legislation, but in the Electoral Franchise Act, an act that defined the federal polity of adult male property holders and that he called \u201cmy greatest achievement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Macdonald\u2019s comments came as he justified an amendment taking the vote away from anyone \u201cof Mongolian or Chinese race.\u201d He warned that, if the Chinese (who had been in British Columbia as long as Europeans) were allowed to vote, \u201cthey might control the vote of that whole Province\u201d and their \u201cChinese representatives\u201d would foist \u201cAsiatic principles,\u201d \u201cimmoralities,\u201d and \u201ceccentricities\u201d on the House \u201cwhich are abhorrent to the Aryan race and Aryan principles.\u201d He further claimed that <strong>\u201cthe Aryan races will not wholesomely <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=553\" target=\"_blank\">amalgamate<\/a> with the Africans or the Asiatics\u201d and that \u201cthe cross of those races, like the cross of the dog and the fox, is not successful; it cannot be, and never will be.\u201d<\/strong> For Macdonald, Canada was to be the country that restored a pure Aryan race to its past glory, and the Chinese threatened this purity&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Read the entire article <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ottawacitizen.com\/John+Macdonald+wanted+Aryan+Canada\/7123237\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>John A.
