While the initial offspring of these Indian and European unions were individuals who possessed mixed ancestry, the gradual establishment of distinct M\u00e9tis communities, outside of Indian and European cultures and settlements, as well as, the subsequent intermarriages between M\u00e9tis women and M\u00e9tis men, resulted in the genesis of a new Aboriginal people\u2014the M\u00e9tis.<\/p>\n<p>Distinct M\u00e9tis communities emerged, as an outgrowth of the fur trade, along part of the freighting waterways and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Great_Lakes\" target=\"_blank\">Great Lakes<\/a> of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ontario\" target=\"_blank\">Ontario<\/a>, throughout the Northwest and as far north as the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mackenzie_River\" target=\"_blank\">McKenzie river<\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Read the entire report <a href=\"http:\/\/www.M\u00e9tisnation.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/The-M\u00e9tis-publication.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The M\u00e9tis M\u00e9tis National Council Ottowa, Ontario, Canada 2011 Prior to Canada&#8217;s crystallization as a nation in west central North America, the M\u00e9tis people emerged out of the relations of Indian women and European men.
