{"id":28665,"date":"2013-02-10T04:01:12","date_gmt":"2013-02-10T04:01:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/wordpress\/?p=28665"},"modified":"2016-02-16T00:10:32","modified_gmt":"2016-02-16T00:10:32","slug":"black-history-month-events-at-two-colleges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mixedracestudies.org\/wp\/?p=28665","title":{"rendered":"Black History Month Events at Two Colleges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.utsandiego.com\/news\/2013\/feb\/09\/tp-black-history-month-events-at-two-colleges\/\" target=\"_blank\">Black History Month Events at Two Colleges<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.utsandiego.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The San Diego Union-Tribune<\/a><br \/>\n2013-02-09<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.utsandiego.com\/staff\/karen-pearlman\/\" target=\"_blank\">Karen Pearlman<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>El Cajon \u2014 Both East County community colleges are getting into the commemoration of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Black_History_Month\" target=\"_blank\">Black History Month<\/a> with free events this month.<\/p>\n<p>A library exhibit featuring <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/J._R._Clifford\" target=\"_blank\">John Robert Clifford<\/a>, a seminal figure in African-American history (and a forefather of a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cuyamaca.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cuyamaca College<\/a> administrator) and a stepping demonstration by members of a historically black fraternity are part of the commemoration at Cuyamaca College.<\/p>\n<p>At <a href=\"http:\/\/www.grossmont.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Grossmont College<\/a>, the celebration will take on a culinary and artistic flair, with events ranging from a soul food lunch with live jazz, a visit by a pair of blues and jazz masters, and the showing of a student documentary&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;<strong>Grossmont College film student Sicarra Devers, 22, cites her mixed-race heritage as inspiration for her documentary, \u201c<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/calendar\/event?eid=cDdrbWI0a2toNmszN2xndmtmcTNoY2Q0cWcgZ3Jvc3Ntb250c29jaWFsQG0&amp;ctz=America\/Los_Angeles\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Who Are We Really: An Exploration of Multiculturalism Self-identity<\/strong><\/a><strong>,\u201d<\/strong> which will be shown at 4 p.m. Feb. 19 in Room 220 of Building 26.
