This blog is intended to 1) share updates and Eric\u2019s perspectives on the NAC, 2) gather community perspectives, and 3) promote discussion about the Census Bureau as it relates to Multiracial people, the Two Or More Races (TOMR) population, and social justice.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Reflecting on the second NAC in-person meeting and a few brief discussions about the use of <a href=\"http:\/\/censusnac.blogspot.com\/2012\/11\/cost-cutting-and-third-party-records.html\" target=\"_blank\">Administrative Records and Third Party Data (AR-TPD)<\/a>, I was reminded of an old saying, which I\u2019ll paraphrase:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThere\u2019s never been a time-saving device that\u2019s created a minute of leisure.\u201d**<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>My interpretation of that saying is this: Lots of technological advancements are advertised as doing menial work, so that we have more time for relaxing or doing more meaningful work.\u00a0 But that\u2019s rarely what actually happens.\u00a0 For example, at my job, I have a computer and it\u2019s frustratingly slow sometimes.\u00a0 In those moments, I think, \u201cGah!\u00a0 If only I had a faster computer, I could be done with this work faster!\u201d\u00a0 And that\u2019s true.\u00a0 But if I had a faster computer and finished my work faster, what would happen?\u00a0 Would my boss say, \u201cYou finished that right quick, guess you\u2019re done for the day!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Probably not&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Read the entire article <a href=\"http:\/\/censusnac.blogspot.com\/2013\/03\/who-will-benefit-from-ar-tpd-cost.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Who will benefit from AR-TPD &#8220;cost-savings&#8221;?
