{"id":29951,"date":"2013-03-31T02:43:31","date_gmt":"2013-03-31T02:43:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/wordpress\/?p=29951"},"modified":"2016-04-07T01:25:47","modified_gmt":"2016-04-07T01:25:47","slug":"interview-jackie-kay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mixedracestudies.org\/wp\/?p=29951","title":{"rendered":"Interview: Jackie Kay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.journallive.co.uk\/culture-newcastle\/2013\/03\/30\/interview-jackie-kay-61634-33086446\/\" target=\"_blank\">Interview: Jackie Kay<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.journallive.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\">The Journal<\/a><br \/>\nNewcastle upon Tyne<br \/>\n2013-03-30<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/elll\/staff\/profile\/jackie.kay\" target=\"_blank\">Jackie Kay<\/a> is about to be read in places most writers never reach. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.journallive.co.uk\/authors\/david-whetstone\/\" target=\"_blank\">David Whetstone<\/a> spoke to her.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>YOU can imagine there are lots of things a writer dreams of \u2013 literary prizes, lucrative deals, maybe a film adaptation.<\/p>\n<p>But a different accolade has come the way of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncl.ac.uk\/elll\/staff\/profile\/jackie.kay\" target=\"_blank\">Jackie Kay<\/a>, professor of creative writing at Newcastle University.<\/p>\n<p>Her acclaimed memoir, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=7023\" target=\"_blank\">Red Dust Road<\/a><\/em>, has been chosen as one of 20 books on the list for World Book Night (April 23).<\/p>\n<p>On that night 20,000 volunteers will each distribute 20 copies of the chosen books in communities where reading is not commonplace.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously the books can be by writers living or dead so there were a lot to choose from,\u201d says Jackie&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;Jackie was born in Edinburgh in 1961 to a Scottish mother and a Nigerian father.
