She is currently the Robert W. Woodruff Professor of English and Creative Writing at Emory University.<\/p>\n<p>Trethewey was born in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gulfport,_Mississippi\" target=\"_blank\">Gulfport, Miss.<\/a>, on April 26, 1966. She is the author of four poetry collections and a book of creative non-fiction. Her honors include the Pulitzer Prize and fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. In 2012, she was appointed State Poet Laureate of Mississippi.<\/p>\n<p>Emory University president James W. Wagner will also pay tribute to the university&#8217;s long history with poets and their art, much of which is housed in Emory&#8217;s Manuscript, Archives and Rare Book Library collections.<\/p>\n<p>Emory alumni board president Isabel Garcia will emcee the evening.<\/p>\n<p>The event is free and open to the public, but space is limited.
