During the split second as he walked by, did he register in your mind as black or white?<\/p>\n<p>Disturbing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=31256\" target=\"_blank\">new research<\/a> suggests the answer to that question may depend on your political ideology.<\/p>\n<p>In three experiments, \u201cwe found that conservatives were more likely than liberals to categorize a racially ambiguous person as black than white,\u201d a research team led by New York University psychologist <a href=\"amy.krosch@nyu.edu\" target=\"_blank\">Amy Krosch<\/a> writes in the <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/journal\/00221031\" target=\"_blank\">Journal of Experimental Social Psychology<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Intriguingly, this dynamic disappeared when the study participants\u2014white Americans\u2014were told they were judging Canadian faces.
