{"id":32686,"date":"2013-08-02T21:18:01","date_gmt":"2013-08-02T21:18:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/wordpress\/?p=32686"},"modified":"2015-09-27T18:01:13","modified_gmt":"2015-09-27T18:01:13","slug":"koreans-are-not-racist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mixedracestudies.org\/wp\/?p=32686","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Koreans are not racist&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.koreatimes.co.kr\/www\/news\/nation\/2013\/08\/116_140414.html\" target=\"_blank\">&#8216;Koreans are not racist&#8217;<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.koreatimes.co.kr\" target=\"_blank\">The Korea Times<\/a><br \/>\n2013-08-02<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"mailto:jonnie.breen@gmail.com\" target=\"_blank\">Jonathan Breen<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Koreans can be close-minded to issues of race and culture, but they know it and they want to learn, says the head of a foundation that helps multiethnic children here.<\/p>\n<p>Yang Chan-wook, chairman of the Movement for the Advancement of the Cultural Diversity of Koreans (MACK) \u2014 told The Korea Times that Korea is not a racist or prejudiced country, but a country going through change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRacism is usually based on hate \u2014 Korea is nothing like that,\u201d he said&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;\u201cWe focus on the diversity of Koreans \u2014 anyone with a mixed heritage. And we help Koreans accept them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Like many MACK members, Yang is mixed-race \u2014 part Korean from his mother and part African-American from his father.
