Jones<\/strong><\/a>, Executive Director<\/p>\n<p>For decades, [North Carolina] NC Highway markers in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Manteo,_North_Carolina\" target=\"_blank\">Manteo<\/a> have honored English exploration, the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Roanoke_Colony\" target=\"_blank\">Lost Colony<\/a> and Confederate forts.\u00a0 No reference to the local people has been acknowledged.\u00a0 Well, this Saturday, the first town encountered by the English, in 1585, will get its own marker.\u00a0 This NC Highway Historical Marker for the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Roanoke_tribe\" target=\"_blank\">Roanoke Indian<\/a> town of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dasamongueponke\" target=\"_blank\">Dasemunkepuec<\/a> will be unveiled.\u00a0 (We call it &#8220;Dase&#8221;.)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New Marker Unveiling this Saturday in Manteo!
