{"id":33013,"date":"2013-08-20T02:50:26","date_gmt":"2013-08-20T02:50:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/wordpress\/?p=33013"},"modified":"2014-11-09T23:04:06","modified_gmt":"2014-11-09T23:04:06","slug":"art-at-wing-luke-museum-explores-mixed-race-heritage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mixedracestudies.org\/wp\/?p=33013","title":{"rendered":"Art at Wing Luke Museum explores mixed-race heritage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/seattletimes.com\/html\/thearts\/2021627392_warbabywingxml.html\" target=\"_blank\">Art at Wing Luke Museum explores mixed-race heritage<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/seattletimes.com\" target=\"_blank\">The Seattle Times<\/a><br \/>\n2013-08-19<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"mailto:robertayers@mac.com\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Robert Ayers<\/strong><\/a>, Special to The Seattle Times<\/p>\n<p><em>The thought-provoking \u201cWar Baby\/Love Child: Mixed Race Asian-American Art\u201d exhibition is showing at the Wing Luke in Seattle through Jan. 19, 2014.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=32645\" target=\"_blank\">War Baby\/Love Child: Mixed Race Asian-American Art<\/a>,\u201d currently at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wingluke.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience<\/a>, is a jewel of an exhibition that has been organized and curated by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.laurakina.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Laura Kina<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfsu.edu\/~aas\/dariotis-wei-ming.html\" target=\"_blank\">Wei Ming Dariotis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As their provocative title suggests, the curators \u2014 both scholars in the field of mixed-race studies \u2014 see their role not only to present a group of stimulating high-quality works (which they have done anyway,) but also to encourage a new understanding of what \u201cmixed race\u201d means. The last thing they intend is a celebration of multiculturalism, and instead, they stress that there is nothing new or exceptional about mixed-race heritage.
