So she bought 200 pairs.<\/p>\n<p>Eager to work with glass, she spent time at the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pilchuck_Glass_School\" target=\"_blank\">Pilchuck Glass School<\/a> near <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Seattle\" target=\"_blank\">Seattle<\/a> learning about the medium\u2019s malleable properties and how to incorporate them into her work.<\/p>\n<p>Both antlers and glass are integral to the 11 sculptures in her exhibit \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/driskellcenter.umd.edu\/Saar\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\">Still &#8230;<\/a>\u201d coming to the <a href=\"http:\/\/driskellcenter.umd.edu\" target=\"_blank\">David C. Driskell Center<\/a> at the University of Maryland, College Park.<\/p>\n<p>In the exhibit, Saar, who is biracial, explores issues of racial identity and bigotry as well as sexism, ageism and love and loss&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;In \u201cBlack Lightning\u201d (a play on the slang term \u201cwhite lightning\u201d), Saar presents a charred stool, a mop, a bucket and a set of glass boxing gloves hanging from a pole and filled with a liquid tinged with red.<\/p>\n<p>She said it\u2019s about black men and the futures once thought suitable for them \u2014 to work as a janitor or a boxer but not to work as a president.<\/p>\n<p>Hateful comments about <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Barack_Obama\" target=\"_blank\">Obama<\/a> also stirred up her own feelings about being biracial in a culture where often neither black nor white groups accept you as their own.<\/p>\n<p>In \u201c50 Proof,\u201d Saar presents a metal stand holding a basin filled with a dark liquid.
