I put a lower-case \u201ca\u201d in the acronym to both make the acronym something pronounceable to English speakers, and to echo the older acronym WASP (White Anglo-Saxon Protestant). You say it like \u201cMr. Wasp\u201d&#8211;emphasis on the \u201cmister\u201d shows that this is not just about white supremacy, it\u2019s also about patriarchy.<\/p>\n<p>MRWaSP is an upgrade on WASP. As critical theorists of race have been arguing, white supremacy has retooled itself to work more efficiently in and for globalized, neoliberal hegemonies. Not only are exclusion and border-patrolling resource-intensive, they\u2019re also not the most efficient ways of promoting nationalist, capitalist, patriarchal interests. As <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faculty.uci.edu\/profile.cfm?faculty_id=5113\" target=\"_blank\">Jared Sexton<\/a> argues, contemporary multiculturalism\/multiracialism is a \u201cprotest less against the genocidal objectives of Anglo white supremacy than the inefficiency of unrestrained violence as the means of its accomplishment\u201d (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=3772\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Amalgamation Schemes [: Antiblackness and the Critique of Multiracialism]<\/em><\/a>, 200). You can extend this argument to patriarchy and other institutionalized forms of identity-based oppression.
