Jones<\/strong><\/a>, Executive Director<br \/>\n<em>Chowan Discovery Group<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Robbins Family at War&#8221; &#8211; it is about a Native American family who lived through colonial wars of the 17th and 18th centuries, and finally emerged victorious in the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/American_Civil_War\" target=\"_blank\">Civil War<\/a> as a part of the mixed-race community. Five members served in the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States_Colored_Troops\" target=\"_blank\">U.S. Colored Troops<\/a>. Three fought from <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Suffolk,_Virginia\" target=\"_blank\">Suffolk, Virginia<\/a> to <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Richmond,_Virginia\" target=\"_blank\">Richmond<\/a> and helped enforce <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Juneteenth\" target=\"_blank\">Juneteenth<\/a>. Two served in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Florida\" target=\"_blank\">Florida<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/South_Carolina\" target=\"_blank\">South Carolina<\/a>. After the war, they served in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/North_Carolina\" target=\"_blank\">North Carolina<\/a>\u00a0legislature, invented and founded schools and churches.<\/p>\n<p>Marvin T. Jones is the executive director of the <a href=\"http:\/\/chowandiscovery.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Chowan Discovery Group<\/a>, whose mission is to research, document, preserve and present the history of the mixed-race land-owning people of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hertford_County,_North_Carolina\" target=\"_blank\">Hertford County<\/a> area in northeast North Carolina. The CDG has produced many articles, lectures, historical markers, a stage production and several video documentaries.
