All raise important points yet miss others that are equally important. (I want to thank <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ctsaenz\" target=\"_blank\">Christina Saenz-Alc\u00e1natra<\/a> for effectively and succinctly <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latinorebels.com\/2014\/10\/01\/latino-and-race-together-and-separately\/\u00a0http:\/\/www.latinorebels.com\/2014\/09\/25\/who-and-what-the-hell-is-a-white-hispanic\/\" target=\"_blank\">explaining<\/a> the arguments of various commentaries.)<\/p>\n<p>To discuss \u201cwhite Hispanics,\u201d means to discuss two issues: one is being Latino in the U.S. context and the other is variation in skin color. I argue that these need to be discussed separately and together in order to understand the impact on individuals. Being Latino in the U.S. is frequently a racialized experience, which matters for most members even if they are light-skinned.
