I thought, how true.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to my own challenges against racism within the police, I\u2019m unsure how I described myself. I mean, the Government gave me labels on forms like mixed-race because I have a white mother and black father \u2013 but, I was just me.<\/p>\n<p>It was the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Metropolitan_Police_Service\" target=\"_blank\">Metropolitan Police<\/a> which ironically got me to look closer under my skin, at my race and identity.<\/p>\n<p>I <a href=\"http:\/\/thenubiantimes.com\/your-life-is-worth-less-as-a-black-person-in-the-police\/\" target=\"_blank\">wrote in <em>The Nubian Times<\/em><\/a> for the recent <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Black_History_Month#United_Kingdom_.281987.29\" target=\"_blank\">Black History Month<\/a> that, in my challenges against discrimination within <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Scotland_Yard\" target=\"_blank\">Scotland Yard<\/a> the Met said I wasn\u2019t black (enough) to be discriminated against.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I was like, this is just stupid.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The first thing people see when they meet me is my black skin, and it\u2019s how I identify anyhow too \u2013 which, is what is important&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Read the entire article <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.kevinmaxwell.co.uk\/2014\/11\/being-a-mixed-race-black-person\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BEING a mixed-race black person&#8230; Max News: &#8216;View from the Bottom&#8217; Magazine of Kevin Maxwell London, United Kingdom 2014-11-05 Kevin Maxwell I was talking with a black woman earlier, and we happened to get on to the subject of race \u2013 something close to my skin, literally.
