Earlier this year Russell helped out on <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Damon_Albarn\" target=\"_blank\">Damon Albarn\u2019s<\/a> solo debut \u2018Everyday Robots\u2019, a project that\u2019s been a long time coming but was practically forced into existence. Ibeyi, on the flipside, comes off like something eager to career into view, the first step of an act that\u2019s only just beginning to evolve.<\/p>\n<p>The pair\u2019s basics build on the teachings of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Yoruba_culture\" target=\"_blank\">Yoruba culture<\/a>, which in their own words believes in \u201cenergy\u201d, not necessarily spirits, \u201clove and life and death\u201d, but not strictly life after death. Musically, Yoruba teaches the importance of dance and percussion, the latter of which their late Father, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Anga_D%C3%ADaz\" target=\"_blank\">Anga D\u00edaz<\/a>, became celebrated for. It\u2019s not something that strictly runs in the family, mind you.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOh no, I\u2019m bad at percussion!\u201d proclaims the afro-sporting Lisa-Kainde. \u201cBut I appreciate it so much. When you\u2019re a child you must have to learn how to dance with rhythm.
