{"id":38922,"date":"2014-12-16T02:40:56","date_gmt":"2014-12-16T02:40:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/wordpress\/?p=38922"},"modified":"2014-12-16T02:40:56","modified_gmt":"2014-12-16T02:40:56","slug":"genetic-diversity-of-sub-saharan-africa-revealed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mixedracestudies.org\/wp\/?p=38922","title":{"rendered":"Genetic diversity of Sub-Saharan Africa revealed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/science-environment-30318291\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>Genetic diversity of Sub-Saharan Africa revealed<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">BBC News<\/a><br \/>\n2014-12-04<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rebeccamorelle\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Rebecca Morelle<\/strong><\/a>, Science Correspondent<\/p>\n<p><em>Scientists have completed a comprehensive study of genetic diversity in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sub-Saharan_Africa\" target=\"_blank\">Sub-Saharan Africa<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sanger.ac.uk\/research\/initiatives\/globalhealth\/research\/africangenome.html\" target=\"_blank\">African Genome Variation Project<\/a> analysed the DNA of 1,800 people living across the continent.<\/p>\n<p>The data is helping scientists to understand how susceptibility to disease varies across the region and has provided more insight into how populations have moved within Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The research is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=38792\" target=\"_blank\">published in the journal <em>Nature<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Until now, most studies examining genetic risk factors for disease have focused on Europe.
