{"id":40512,"date":"2015-03-19T01:42:04","date_gmt":"2015-03-19T01:42:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/wordpress\/?p=40512"},"modified":"2015-03-19T01:42:04","modified_gmt":"2015-03-19T01:42:04","slug":"nevada-gop-lawmaker-to-colored-colleague-racism-is-over-because-the-president-is-black","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mixedracestudies.org\/wp\/?p=40512","title":{"rendered":"Nevada GOP lawmaker to \u2018colored\u2019 colleague: Racism is over because the president is black"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rawstory.com\/rs\/2015\/03\/nevada-gop-lawmaker-to-colored-colleague-racism-is-over-because-the-president-is-black\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>Nevada GOP lawmaker to \u2018colored\u2019 colleague: Racism is over because the president is black<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rawstory.com\" target=\"_blank\">Raw Story<\/a><br \/>\n2015-03-18<\/p>\n<p><strong>David Ferguson<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nevada\" target=\"_blank\">Nevada<\/a> state Assemblywoman who believes that cancer is a \u201cfungus\u201d that can be flushed from the body with saline solution has now said that she believes that racism in her state is a thing of the past.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/columns-blogs\/politics\/slash-politics\/five-things-we-learned-voter-id-hearing\" target=\"_blank\">According to the <em>Las Vegas Review-Journal<\/em><\/a>, State Assemblywoman Michelle Fiore (R) said that racism is over, now, so people of color should stop \u201cusing the race card\u201d about voter ID laws and other Republican policies that unfairly impact people of color and the poor.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6sJgK-SLwzA?rel=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>She also congratulated an African-American colleague for being the first \u201ccolored\u201d person to graduate from his college.<\/p>\n<p>Fiore is one of the cosponsors of a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/news\/nevada-legislature\/nevada-voter-id-proposal-brings-contentious-debate\" target=\"_blank\">proposed voter ID law<\/a> in Nevada which \u2014 like all such laws \u2014 has been predicted to have an adverse effect on voter turnout by blacks, the elderly and students, all traditionally Democratic voting blocs.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing \u201cpeers that are concerned with color,\u201d Fiore went on to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reviewjournal.com\/columns-blogs\/politics\/slash-politics\/five-things-we-learned-voter-id-hearing\" target=\"_blank\">congratulate<\/a> Democratic Assemblyman <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harvey_Munford\" target=\"_blank\">Harvey J.
