So much for that “fresh perspective” on race.<\/em><\/p>\n

News that Trevor Noah<\/a> would replace Jon Stewart<\/a> as the new host of \u201cThe Daily Show<\/a>\u201d brought a collective round of applause for the South African<\/a> comedian and his \u201cfresh<\/a>\u201d perspective and \u201cfresh takes on race<\/a>.\u201d Critics have long lamented<\/a> the lack of color among late-night TV hosts, and now a black man has gotten one of the plum hosting gigs.<\/p>\n

Noah might look like an enlightened choice, but his routines show he isn\u2019t \u2014 his jokes often hinge on insulting African Americans.<\/p>\n

Back in 2012, Noah made his first American appearance<\/a>, on \u201cThe Tonight Show with Jay Leno<\/a>.\u201d The bulk of his routine was composed of jokes about black Americans. The United States, he said, was not \u201cthe America he was promised,\u201d and \u201cAmerica has the credit of a black man.\u201d…<\/p>\n
