{"id":41105,"date":"2015-05-13T13:42:28","date_gmt":"2015-05-13T13:42:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/wordpress\/?p=41105"},"modified":"2015-05-13T16:08:03","modified_gmt":"2015-05-13T16:08:03","slug":"no-charges-for-wisconsin-officer-in-killing-of-unarmed-black-teenager","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mixedracestudies.org\/wp\/?p=41105","title":{"rendered":"No Charges for Wisconsin Officer in Killing of Unarmed Black Teenager"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/05\/13\/us\/no-charges-for-wisconsin-officer-in-killing-of-unarmed-black-teenager.html\" target=\"_blank\">No Charges for Wisconsin Officer in Killing of Unarmed Black Teenager<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\" target=\"_blank\">The New York Times<\/a><br \/>\n2015-05-12<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Richard_P%C3%A9rez-Pe%C3%B1a\" target=\"_blank\">Richard P\u00e9rez-Pe\u00f1a<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/perezpena\" target=\"_blank\">@perezpena<\/a>)<\/strong>, National Desk<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Madison,_Wisconsin\" target=\"_blank\">Madison, Wis.<\/a>, police officer who killed an unarmed black man in March, in one of a spate of similar incidents that have set off protests around the country, will not face criminal charges, a prosecutor said Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/03\/08\/us\/man-shot-dead-by-police-after-scuffle-in-wisconsin.html\" target=\"_blank\">shooting of the man<\/a>, Anthony Robinson Jr., had led to protests in Madison and raised concerns of potential unrest if the officer, Matt Kenny, who is white, was not charged, particularly after rioting in Baltimore recently following the death of an unarmed black man from a severe spinal injury sustained while in police custody.<\/p>\n<p>Walking through the case in detail for a room full of reporters at the Public Safety Building, the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dane_County,_Wisconsin\" target=\"_blank\">Dane County<\/a> district attorney, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politifact.com\/personalities\/ismael-ozanne\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ismael Ozanne<\/a>, repeatedly stressed that on the day he died, March 6, Mr. Robinson was behaving erratically and violently, assaulting several people \u2014 apparently including Officer Kenny. He left the room without taking questions<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy decision will not bring Tony Robinson Jr. back,\u201d he said. \u201cMy decision will not end the racial disparities that exist in the justice system, in our justice system. My decision is not based on emotion.
