{"id":41957,"date":"2015-07-26T03:40:09","date_gmt":"2015-07-26T03:40:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=41957"},"modified":"2015-07-26T03:42:47","modified_gmt":"2015-07-26T03:42:47","slug":"key-peele-to-end-after-its-fifth-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mixedracestudies.org\/wp\/?p=41957","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Key &#038; Peele\u2019 to End After Its Fifth Season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/07\/26\/arts\/television\/key-and-peele-to-end-after-its-fifth-season.html\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018Key &amp; Peele\u2019 to End After Its Fifth Season<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\" target=\"_blank\">The New York Times<\/a><br \/>\n2015-07-25<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jonesieman\" target=\"_blank\">Jonah Bromwich<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Comedy_Central\" target=\"_blank\">Comedy Central<\/a> show \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Key_%26_Peele\" target=\"_blank\">Key &amp; Peele<\/a>,\u201d an absurdist sketch comedy that has become known for recurring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=eX8tL3PMj7o\" target=\"_blank\">skits like one in which an \u201canger translator\u201d<\/a> expresses emotions on <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Barack_Obama\" target=\"_blank\">President Obama\u2019s<\/a> behalf, will end after its current season.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the online entertainment journal <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thewrap.com\/key-peele-to-end-its-comedy-central-run-after-this-season-exclusive\/\" target=\"_blank\">TheWrap<\/a><\/em>, one of the show\u2019s stars <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Keegan-Michael_Key\" target=\"_blank\">Keegan-Michael Key<\/a> said that it was time for him and his co-star, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jordan_Peele\" target=\"_blank\">Jordan Peele<\/a>, \u201cto explore other things, together and apart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not because of Comedy Central, it\u2019s us,\u201d Mr. Key said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKey &amp; Peele\u201d premiered on the network in 2012 and won a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Peabody_Award\" target=\"_blank\">Peabody Award<\/a> in 2013 for its \u201cinspired satirical riffs on our racially divided and racially conjoined culture.\u201d The show, currently in its fifth season, received seven <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Emmy_Award\" target=\"_blank\">Emmy<\/a> nominations this year, including a nod for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;Both comedians are biracial and much of their comedy is given to exploring, mocking and confounding racial stereotypes.
