I certainly didn\u2019t expect to be a part of the gathering anytime soon. Then my friend Micky asked me to attend. She wanted to know if I would speak on a panel she was moderating, and invited me to present my own workshop as well.<\/p>\n<p>I didn\u2019t know what I would find in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hot_Springs,_North_Carolina\" target=\"_blank\">Hot Springs, North Carolina<\/a> other than spending a few days camping out, thinking about God, smiling, and playing music with a bunch of progressive, hippie Christians, many of whom I was only tangentially connected to on social media. I was nervous, but I wanted to see what this festival was all about, and as a lifelong Boy Scout, I felt like I could handle myself in the woods. I told Micky I would come.<\/p>\n<p>I spent the next few weeks trying to think of something productive to contribute to the \u201cRevolutionary Love and Militant Nonviolence\u201d panel that I would speak on with clergy and racial justice advocates <a href=\"http:\/\/leahgunningfrancis.com\/Leah\/\" target=\"_blank\">Leah Gunning-Francis<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christthekingucc.org\/pastor-traci-blackmon---biography.html\" target=\"_blank\">Traci Blackmon<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/forusa.org\/content\/ethan-vesely-flad\" target=\"_blank\">Ethan Vessley-Flad<\/a>, publically reflecting on our involvement in the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Black_Lives_Matter\" target=\"_blank\">Black Lives Matter<\/a> movement as the one year anniversary of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shooting_of_Michael_Brown\" target=\"_blank\">Mike Brown\u2019s death<\/a> approaches.
