Translated from Danish by <a href=\"http:\/\/sfwp.com\/translators-cut-martin-aitken-denmark\/\" target=\"_blank\">Martin Aitken<\/a><\/p>\n<p>By Julie Sten-Knudsen and Martin Aitken for Translation Tuesdays by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asymptotejournal.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Asymptote<\/a>, part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/books\/series\/guardian-books-network\" target=\"_blank\">Guardian Books Network<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the light of the desk lamp<\/p>\n<p>that is yellower than the daylight<\/p>\n<p>the skin of my hand looks almost green,<\/p>\n<p>almost red, with a golden wash.<\/p>\n<p>It is not white.<\/p>\n<p>The wall is white.<\/p>\n<p>The used tissues<\/p>\n<p>and the unpaid bills are white.<\/p>\n<p>My hand has a different colour. The colour has a name.<\/p>\n<p>I learned it when I was small.
