(Photo: Merritt Gathen)<\/small><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><em>Stanford professor and author shines light on racial \u2018passing\u2019 at <a href=\"http:\/\/civilrightsmuseum.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">NCRM<\/a> event.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=5864\" target=\"_blank\">Passing<\/a>\u201d \u2013 living as a part of one race despite being born into another \u2013 is often full of complexity and consequences, so much so that author and Stanford history professor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allysonhobbs.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dr. Allyson Hobbs<\/a> calls it a type of \u201cexile.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hobbs, author of \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=36295\" target=\"_blank\">A Chosen Exile: AHistory of Racial Passing in American Life<\/a>,\u201dexamined the topic of racial passing during \u201cBook Talk\u201d at the <a href=\"http:\/\/civilrightsmuseum.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Civil Rights Museum<\/a> last week (Dec. 17).
