Not so with the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cowboy\" target=\"_blank\">American Cowboy<\/a>. Here, history zigzags, revealing how Spaniards and Native Americans formed the early American Cowboy: the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mestizo\" target=\"_blank\">Mestizos<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Criollo_people\" target=\"_blank\">Criollos<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vaquero\" target=\"_blank\">vaqueros<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barnesandnoble.com\/w\/in-the-days-of-the-vaqueros-russell-freedman\/1102540592?ean=9780395967881#productInfoTabs\" target=\"_blank\">Russell Freedman<\/a> says, \u201cIt is the cowboy whose fabled reputation we remember, while the vaquero has all but disappeared from history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The romantic icon we know today appears relatively new on the scene of humanity. What isn\u2019t new to us is the historic conflicts, and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cinema_of_the_United_States\" target=\"_blank\">Hollywood <\/a>cinema, that deeply divided the American West into a split personality: Cowboys vs. Indians.<\/p>\n<p>With respect to the fundamental fact that one set of cultures is rooted in bloodlines and the other in a lifestyle, the two identities share a vital commonality in the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Western_United_States\" target=\"_blank\">American West<\/a>: the hybrid culture, the amalgamation of Indian and cowboy.
