Ferguson<\/em><\/a>, the 1896 Supreme Court case in which the Court found that <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Louisiana\" target=\"_blank\">Louisiana<\/a> did not discriminate against <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Homer_Plessy\" target=\"_blank\">Homer A. Plessy<\/a> when it refused to let him sit in the white only section of a passenger train.\u2002In this decision, the Court established the legal doctrine of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Separate_but_equal\" target=\"_blank\">separate, but equal<\/a>,\u201d which governed discrimination cases until the 1954 decision of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brown_v._Board_of_Education\" target=\"_blank\">Brown v. The Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas<\/a><\/em>.
