Many in the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_York_metropolitan_area\" target=\"_blank\">New York area<\/a> are pursuing their biracial heritage through such organizations as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncai.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Alliance of Native Americans<\/a> and radio stations such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wlib.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">WLIB<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The African-native American connection came to light in 1503, when <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nicol%C3%A1s_de_Ovando\" target=\"_blank\">Gov. Nicolas de Ovando of Hispaniola<\/a> complained to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ferdinand_II_of_Aragon\" target=\"_blank\">King Ferdinand<\/a> that African slaves &#8220;fled among the Indians . . . and never could be captured.&#8221; His words announced our first rainbow coalition. Today almost every African-American family &#8212; from <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Frederick_Douglass\" target=\"_blank\">Frederick Douglass<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Langston_Hughes\" target=\"_blank\">Langston Hughes<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alex_Haley\" target=\"_blank\">Alex Haley<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alice_Walker\" target=\"_blank\">Alice Walker<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jesse_Jackson\" target=\"_blank\">Jesse Jackson<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/LL_Cool_J\" target=\"_blank\">L. L. Cool J<\/a> &#8212; has an Indian branch in its family tree. The statistics are much lower for white Americans&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;<a href=\"http:\/\/williamlkatz.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">William L.
