{"id":4533,"date":"2010-01-14T23:19:55","date_gmt":"2010-01-14T23:19:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/wordpress\/?p=4533"},"modified":"2011-09-03T04:51:19","modified_gmt":"2011-09-03T04:51:19","slug":"4533","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mixedracestudies.org\/wp\/?p=4533","title":{"rendered":"Times writer talks \u2018construction\u2019 of race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.yaledailynews.com\/news\/art-news\/2009\/01\/23\/times-writer-talks-construction-of-race\/\" target=\"_blank\">Times writer talks \u2018construction\u2019 of race<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.yaledailynews.com\" target=\"_blank\">Yale Daily News<\/a><br \/>\n2009-01-23<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conrad Lee<\/strong>, Contributing Reporter<\/p>\n<p>For any Yale student who has taken English 120, chances are he or she has come across <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brent_Staples\" target=\"_blank\">Brent Staples<\/a> and his popular essay \u201cBlack Men and Public Space.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thursday afternoon, Staples \u2014 an author and editorial writer for the<em> New York Times<\/em> \u2014 spoke to a group of about 50 people about issues of race and writing at an Ezra Stiles Master\u2019s Tea titled \u201cNeither White Nor Black: The Secret History of Mixed-Race America,\u201d sponsored by the Poynter Fellowship in Journalism&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;During the talk, he approached tough racial issues, raising questions about the complexities of mixed racial identity.
