Credit <em>Jack Mitchell\/Getty Images<\/em><\/small><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Yvonne_Chouteau\" target=\"_blank\">Yvonne Chouteau<\/a>, a former principal dancer of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ballet_Russe_de_Monte_Carlo\" target=\"_blank\">Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo<\/a> who emerged as one of a celebrated group of dancers known as the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Five_Moons\" target=\"_blank\">American Indian ballerinas of Oklahoma<\/a>, died on Sunday at her home in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oklahoma_City\" target=\"_blank\">Oklahoma City<\/a>. She was 86.<\/p>\n<p>The cause was <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Heart_failure\" target=\"_blank\">congestive heart failure<\/a>, said <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ou.edu\/finearts\/dance\/people\/holt\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mary Margaret Holt<\/a>, director of the School of Dance and dean of the College of Fine Arts at the University of Oklahoma. Ms. Chouteau was a founder of the dance school, one of the leading institutions of its kind in the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Southwestern_United_States\" target=\"_blank\">Southwest<\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;Part French and part <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shawnee\" target=\"_blank\">Shawnee<\/a>&#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cherokee\" target=\"_blank\">Cherokee<\/a>, Myra Yvonne Chouteau was born into a pioneering Southwestern family in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fort_Worth,_Texas\" target=\"_blank\">Fort Worth<\/a> on March 7, 1929, the only child of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geni.com\/people\/Corbett-Chouteau\/6000000039797310488\" target=\"_blank\">Corbett Edward Chouteau<\/a> and the former Lucy Annette Taylor. The family soon moved to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vinita,_Oklahoma\" target=\"_blank\">Vinita, Okla.<\/a>, and her father, who was known as C. E. Chouteau, became a prominent American Indian figure in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Chouteau was a direct descendant of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jean-Pierre_Chouteau\" target=\"_blank\">Maj.
