She has been published in <em>Sassafras Literary Magazine<\/em>, <em>Room<\/em>, <em>emerge 2013<\/em> and <em>Raven Chronicles<\/em> and is the Poetry Coordinator at <em>Room<\/em>. <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=45635\" target=\"_blank\">Braided Skin<\/a><\/em>, her first book (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mothertonguepublishing.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mother Tongue Publishing<\/a>, March 2015), has given birth to numerous writing projects, including a work in progress, <em>Dear Current Occupant<\/em>. Her work is deeply rooted in her experiences of mixed ethnicity. Her mother is African-American, and her father and his family were victims of the Asian expulsion in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Uganda\" target=\"_blank\">Uganda<\/a> during the 70s, when <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Idi_Amin\" target=\"_blank\">President Idi Amin<\/a> led a campaign of &#8220;de-Indianization,&#8221; resulting in the \u201cethnic cleansing\u201d of the country\u2019s Indian minority. Chelene is currently pursuing her BA in English at SFU.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Her first book <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=45635\" target=\"_blank\">Braided Skin<\/a><\/em> is forthcoming with Mother Tongue Publishing in spring 2015. Her launch will take place Wednesday April 8th, 2015 from 7-9:30 pm as a part of Twisted Poets Literary Salon run by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pandorascollective.com\" target=\"_blank\">Pandora\u2019s Collective<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>ROOM: First of all Congratulations on your new book <em>Braided Skin<\/em> (Mother Tongue Publishing).
