The most intriguing stars seem to appear from out of nowhere.<\/p>\n

Take Lupita Nyong\u2019o<\/a>, the Mexican-Kenyan actress who had not even graduated from Yale School of Drama<\/a> before landing her star-making role as Patsey in \u201c12 Years a Slave<\/a>,\u201d for which she won an Academy Award<\/a> for best supporting actress in 2014.<\/p>\n

Or Trevor Noah<\/a>, the comedian from Johannesburg<\/a>, who had appeared on \u201cThe Daily Show<\/a>\u201d on Comedy Central<\/a> a scant three times before being named Jon Stewart\u2019s successor last March<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Ms. Nyong\u2019o, 32, has since appeared in \u201cStar Wars: The Force Awakens<\/a>\u201d and lent her voice to \u201cThe Jungle Book<\/a>,\u201d which will open in April. She has also acted on stage in an Off Broadway<\/a> production of \u201cEclipsed,\u201d about the struggles of a group of women during the Liberian Civil War<\/a>. (\u201cEclipsed\u201d will open on Broadway next month.) Ms. Nyong\u2019o quickly became a fashion darling, too, as the first black face of Lanc\u00f4me<\/a>. She has appeared on the cover of Vogue<\/a><\/em> twice…<\/p>\n
