That was before being named the first black principal ballerina for a major ballet company, before the Under Armour sponsorship, the book deal and the documentary on her life.<\/p>\n<p>Copeland, 33, who is a source of inspiration for young women, minorities, dancers and athletes, will share her story in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Columbia,_South_Carolina\" target=\"_blank\">Columbia<\/a> on Tuesday, March 15 at a fundraising luncheon for <a href=\"http:\/\/columbiaclassicalballet.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Columbia Classical Ballet<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/columbiacityballet.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Columbia City Ballet<\/a>. She will be joined by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brooklyn_Mack\" target=\"_blank\">Brooklyn Mack<\/a>, the Elgin native who now dances for <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Washington_Ballet\" target=\"_blank\">The Washington Ballet<\/a> and is also breaking barriers as a black dancer&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;<em><strong>What are some of the topics you plan to discuss when you come to speak in Columbia?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Copeland<\/strong>: I think it\u2019ll be a sharing of our experiences and opening people\u2019s eyes up to the lack of diversity in ballet, and for me what it is to be a part of a company where you\u2019re the only black woman. (Brooklyn and I) are both proof of success in the classical ballet world.
