Last winter, she battled bedbugs in her <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Washington,_D.C.\" target=\"_blank\">D.C.<\/a> apartment. This year, snowstorm \u201cSnowzilla\u201d trapped her inside for several days.<\/p>\n<p>She also happens to be almost 107 years old.<\/p>\n<p>None of that mattered last week when the centenarian stepped \u2014 nay, scampered \u2014 into the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/White_House\" target=\"_blank\">White House<\/a> to meet <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Barack_Obama\" target=\"_blank\">President Obama<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Michelle_Obama\" target=\"_blank\">first lady<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With the leader of the free world in one hand and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Michelle_Obama\" target=\"_blank\">Michelle Obama<\/a> in the other, McLaurin danced with sheer and utter joy, shaking her hips like a 16-year-old and flashing a smile as bright as the camera flashes going off all around her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s 106?\u201d the president asked incredulously.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo, you are not,\u201d scoffed the first lady, before adding: \u201cI want to be like you when I grow up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The uplifting moment was also heavy with history, though. After her super-senior shuffle, McLaurin suddenly got serious.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought I would never live to get in the White House,\u201d said McLaurin, who was born in 1909 in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/South_Carolina\" target=\"_blank\">South Carolina<\/a>, worked as a seamstress for most of her life and has been a widow for more than 70 years.<\/p>\n<p>But her amazement went beyond merely making it inside the hallowed building.
