Lots of superhero movies. Box-office takings are the engine of established Western cinema, and few things fuel that engine more than a superhero tale.<\/p>\n<p>Last week saw the release of the latest adventure in the rebooted <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/X-Men_(film_series)\" target=\"_blank\">X-Men series<\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2oVht1Y8Meg\" target=\"_blank\"><em>X-Men: Apocalypse<\/em><\/a>, which introduced <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Storm_(Marvel_Comics)\" target=\"_blank\">Ororo Munroe<\/a> to the franchise, better known to comicbook fans as Storm \u2013 one of the few black women characters in the mainstream superhero oeuvre.<\/p>\n<p>A black woman at the hub of a major Hollywood movie should be cause for us to break out our best <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/sections\/codeswitch\/2016\/02\/10\/466295915\/video-ucla-gymast-sophina-dejesus-whips-nae-naes-and-slays\" target=\"_blank\">Sophina DeJesus impersonation<\/a>, but one\u2019s joy has to be rationed, as <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alexandra_Shipp\" target=\"_blank\">Alexandra Shipp<\/a> was cast as (the discernibly dark-skinned) Storm.
