Playwright and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Washington,_D.C.\" target=\"_blank\">DC<\/a> native (bonus points) <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Branden_Jacobs-Jenkins\" target=\"_blank\">Branden Jacobs-Jenkins<\/a> returns to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.woollymammoth.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">Woolly Mammoth<\/a> for the DC premiere of <em>An Octoroon<\/em>, an adaption of the 1859 melodrama, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=36987\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Octoroon<\/em><\/a>, by Anglo-Irish playwright <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dion_Boucicault\" target=\"_blank\">Dion Boucicault<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Octoroon<\/em> is set at Terrebonne, a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Louisiana\" target=\"_blank\">Louisiana<\/a> plantation on the brink of financial ruin. When the new owner, George Peyton (Jon Hudson Odom), takes ownership of Terrebonne, he falls in love with his uncle\u2019s illegitimate, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixedracestudies.org\/?p=1146\" target=\"_blank\">one-eighth black<\/a> daughter, Zoe (Kathryn Tkel).
