This weekend black Israelites<\/a> will gather across New York City<\/a> to celebrate their spiritual patriarch \u2014 a rabbi from Harlem<\/a> who helped establish America\u2019s black Hebrew-Israelite movement a century ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe thank the Most High for our beloved Chief Rabbi Matthew<\/a>,\u201d community member Deborah Reuben wrote online. \u201cChief Rabbi Matthew will always be remembered [as] a teacher, a scholar of the Torah<\/a>, a builder and a great leader in Yisrael<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n
