Meet the man helping to reinvent the documentary for <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Millennials\" target=\"_blank\">Generation Y<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>While filming in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/South_Africa\" target=\"_blank\">South Africa<\/a> in 2013, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Reggie_Yates\" target=\"_blank\">Reggie Yates<\/a> experienced the two scariest moments of his TV career to date. \u201cThe director, sound man and I got caught up in a fight between two gangs,\u201d he explains. \u201cOne of the guys pulled out a gun and I thought: \u2018All bets are off.\u2019 We got out of there, but we met up with one of the gangs again later on in this little hut and they all had their machetes out. I thought: \u2018This could go wrong at any minute,\u2019 but it didn\u2019t. I think a lot of that came down to the respect we showed them; I don\u2019t wear a bulletproof [vest] in these places, because [that would be] saying that I don\u2019t trust someone or I think I\u2019m better.\u201d He laughs before adding: \u201cIt could\u2019ve been worse!\u201d&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;Starting out as a child actor in 90s barbershop sitcom <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Desmond%27s\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Desmond\u2019s<\/em><\/a>, he went on to work as a kids\u2019 TV presenter alongside pal <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fearne_Cotton\" target=\"_blank\">Fearne Cotton<\/a> on shows including CBBC\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Smile_(TV_series)\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Smile<\/em><\/a>. Then came a move into radio DJing on <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/BBC_Radio_1Xtra\" target=\"_blank\"><em>1Xtra<\/em><\/a>, before a gig as the anchor of Radio 1\u2019s <em>Official Chart Show<\/em>. Somehow he\u2019s also found time to voice cartoon rodent <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rastamouse\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Rastamouse<\/em><\/a> and appear in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Doctor_Who\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Doctor Who<\/em><\/a>, as well as writing and directing his own short films (his latest, <em>Shelter<\/em>, stars <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/W1A_(TV_series)\" target=\"_blank\"><em>W1A\u2019s<\/em><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jessica_Hynes\" target=\"_blank\">Jessica Hynes<\/a>).
